The Simple Reason For Childhood Obesity: Kids Get 40% Of Their Calories From Junk Food

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why kids today are more obese than ever before in the history of human kind – the fact is that out of what kids eat today, 40% of the calories come from junk food.

The calories that come from junk food are the most unhealthy kind, since they are empty calories; devoid of nutrition and these constitute 40% of what kids between ages 2 and 18 are eating today, says a new study published by National Cancer Institute.

Consider what a normal kid’s diet includes – sodas and other sweetened beverages loaded with calories; cookies, cakes, donuts, pizzas, ice creams, and whole milk rather than skim milk.

From this list, whole milk is the only thing that is excluded from the junk food list, but it is still high in calories, whereas you can get the same amount of nutrition from skim milk.

Also consider the fact that junk food is really bay for our planet as well – made from genetically modified produce, it is loaded with artificial preservatives, pesticides, herbicides and the like.  A diet rich in whole foods sourced locally is therefore not just good for health, but it is also good for the planet.
