It is not uncommon for parents to quit their jobs in order to be able to stay at home with their children and take care of them. It is a fact that stay-at-home moms and dads tend to spend more time with their children and may make them feel more secure. Ofcourse, there are many advantages of being a stay at home parent but there are also some disadvantages.  Below given is a list of the disadvantages of being a stay at home parent:

disadvantages of being a stay at home parent

Reduce in the Household Income

One of the negatives associated with being a stay-at-home parent is that this can lead to a reduction in the overall household income.  When you stay at home, then not only are you not earning but tend to spend more on cleaning, cooking, electricity and many other things.  This can lead to fewer saving and more expenditure which may be difficult to bear for the other parent who is working.

You Become Less Employable for the Future

Another disadvantage of being a stay at home parent is that you become much less employable in the future.  When you stay at home for a long time, you tend to forget your skills and may become rusty at what you used to do well earlier. This may decrease the chances of you getting employed again or reduce the chances of getting a job as good as you previously had.

Less Time for Yourself

You may think that staying at home will help you to find a lot of time for yourself but this may not always happen. When you stay at home with your children, you tend to get too engrossed in their upbringing, their homework and tending to them that you hardly get time for yourself.

Boredom and Loneliness

When children go off to school or classes, you may be left at home alone and this can lead to a lot of boredom and loneliness. You can make use of this time to indulge in your hobby or complete any pending task.

Can Lead to Frustration

When you stay at home all day and are not contributing to earning for the house, you may soon begin to feel frustrated and this may have a huge impact on your parenting skills as well.

So what have you decided? Do you plan to be a stay at home parent or a working parent?
